Carlos, I couldn't agree with you more. Inprise/Visigenic solutions for Linux have a lot of promise. From what I've heard (I've never used the Appserver/CORBA solutions myself) they are very easy to deploy and simplify distributed computing. This week's announcement of a relationship with TurboLinux (which Inprise is also an investor in) certainly lends credibility to your theory. But still, why Corel? Does this merger significantly change the direction Corel is taking with regards to Linux? If it has, the new direction has not been defined. Corel is aiming at the desktop market. It wouldn't take much for Corel to offer an "enterprise" Linux, but there is no indication that this is part of the plan. For all I know, the Visigenic division, which it will be called after the merger, may be sold off. There has been no mention of enterprise strategy of this new combined Corel/Inprise/Borland/Visigenic company. Its been all about easy to use Linux, office suite, development tools and Borland's 2 million software developers. I'm worried we'll miss out on the rapidly growing ASP business.
