Scumbia's because he probably is right that in every day use the ALU will have minimal impact. However using special compilers and benchmarks (We all know benchmarks can be manipulated to show whatever you want to show.)Intel will probably come up with special benchmarks which will enhance ALU as percentage of ops in that routine,and therefore come up with unusually high score; which Elmer will mention for the next ten years ad nauseum; even though he will know full well that that benchmark mainly shows off the performance of ALU, not general performance of chip.
