Is the 64 bit processor going to derive any benefit from the fact it is 64 bit, or is the main benefit purely ability to address more memory.

On other 64-bit CPUs (e.g. Alpha), and presumably also for Itanic, 64-bit address programs run slightly slower than 32-bit programs, due to cache effects.

Joe,

Programs that are bandwidth limited will benefit from a true 64 bit datapath through a processor. Not many processors have a true 64 bit datapath, and not many programs are bandwidth limited however.
