Interesting comments from Goldman-Sachs chief economist in NY Times today - Greenspan will either slow down the economy with interest rates or a sufficient enough drop in the DOW - the feeling is that unless the DOW drops 20% that this will be accomplished with interest rates. I guess I don't quite get it - it seems to me that he will cause a recession - I doubt he will be able to slow economy with enough preciseness to avoid this - the problem with all of these interest rate hikes is that they preassume no other exogenous event will occur to slow the economy - this is a big assumption and most likely a wrong one.
