Goutama - RE: Price cuts

Here's what the Intel and AMD cuts look like

MHz 550 600 650 667 700 733 750 800 850 866 933
AMD 2/28 NA 190 226 NA 270 NA 350 530 750 NA
Intel 2/27 193 241 316 337 417 455 530 647 765 776 NA
Intel 4/23 193 193 241 251 316 337 455 562 733 744 NA
Intel 5/28 NA NA 193 193 241 246 337 385 551 562 744

I don't have time to fully analyze this right now, but the thing that stands out is that AMD is one price drop ahead of Intel.

Which brings up an oddity on pricewatch today. No cumine 800s, still, but a really odd price pattern on 700/733/750 parts.

750- $786
733- $542
700- $595

Best prices from rook.pricewatch.com@ctd+3+AND+@contents+PENTIUM*+AND+@contents+III*+AND+@contents+750*&catd=3&cn=Microprocessors+PC&cr=Microprocessors+PC+Pentium+III+750&n=52&CiCodePage=Windows-1252&a=2 , brook.pricewatch.com@ctd+3+AND+@contents+PENTIUM*+AND+@contents+III*+AND+@contents+733*&catd=3&cn=Microprocessors+PC&cr=Microprocessors+PC+Pentium+III+733&n=7&CiCodePage=Windows-1252&a=2 , and rook.pricewatch.com@ctd+3+AND+@contents+PENTIUM*+AND+@contents+III*+AND+@contents+700*&catd=3&cn=Microprocessors+PC&cr=Microprocessors+PC+Pentium+III+700&n=14&CiCodePage=Windows-1252&a=2 , there's actually a lot more listings close to the low price for the bargain 733's that for the others too.

Strange, offhand I'd guess this is due to the 733 being a 133 FSB chip, while the others are 100 FSB and work with the old reliable BX and pc100 SDRAM. Leading to a lack of demand for the 733, though not, apparently, sufficient lack of demand for the 800/133 to get it listed.

Cheers, Dan.
