Ken, I took some time to read your post. Fascinating, and Remarkable. ..If you would just substitute Metal for Chips, I swear I would be reading AMAT/Semiconductor thread few years back....

It has nothing to do with hedging, overproduction (necessary evil in every industry in Market Economy to clean it up from excesses...(not dissimilar to hurricanes in nature cutting dead trees) The bottom line it has a lot to do with cycles..You happen to get on one of the huge winners in the upcoming cycle..and for very little reason..Do yourself a favor just hold ABX for another 5-10 years you would retire very rich....At the present price you are getting Multimillion Euro house for several thousand yens...:)

Ken, one more thing before I forget totally, any value stock
is by definition is at the bottom of the cycle...What defines the bottom is not so much the present value of the X stock, not even the future value..(impossible to know)...But how much the rest of the sectors/stocks are overvalued...
The value sector would never become a value unless ruthlessly taken down by Market Forces...Good thing in a Nature and in the Market

It is however not necessary to time an absolute bottom...Indeed it is harmful....Not enough time to accumulate low or get rid of the high stuff....

Keep-up a good work,

Regards

You are expecting the impossible of shareholders when all they need to do is hold or sell.
