Well, I usually don't discuss "personal" stuff-- but this is interesting to me. Do you separate money? Is that because you work? I don't have "my" money. Everything is joint, although my contributions are a little sparse (150 a column doesn't even pay the water bill). And neither of us has ever made the other feel that they had to "explain" anything. Although we do, because we are both guiltladen, overly responsible, and cheap. We're always saying to the other,"Get something for YOURSELF!" We're very, very bad about books, but we don't buy expensive clothes or jewelry or furniture.

Our next door neighbors are getting a divorce. They have no children. One of his complaints about his wife is that "all she does is go to school" (she's working on her Ph D. in engineering!--- impresses the hell out of me!!)
does that mean that once the kids are gone, I have to earn half or I get left?
Boy, am I in trouble.
What exactly is it people want from relationships anyway. I mean if there aren't kids. I';m trying to think of marriages that are childless and enduring and why, but I'm bogged down by ignorance. Do we believe in true love? In real soulmate stuff? Or is that an adolescent thing? Does it just get practical? Ooooo- such scary stuff.

ANd you know--- they PAY her to go to school!!!! 16K a year in addition to all her tuition and books.

MJ is in the kitchen roasting eggplant? And she says, "I'm using one of our new appliances." She's excited.

She waves her wooden turner at me, and directs me to the metal grill pan sitting on one of the gas burners.

"Didn't we get that at the Goodwill?" I ask.

"No; we got it from the junk pile behind your sister's cabin when they cleaned it out."

What a girl. Wow.
