Dan.B,now you try to call Gilder HYPE :
" Gilder is trying
to be entertaining in his opening(not very successful though, IMO). In the end, he
indicates "hopes" for S-CDMA as an industry standard in Asia. If that seems
contradictory, I'd just allow that I don't think he is oblivious to the possible
definitions of "standard" which any free human being is at liberty to employ at will,
wrong in his usage, nor(especially) attempting to mislead anyone. The bottom line is
that when it comes to CDMA in the cable world...there seems to be only ONE
standard available to look at...one which has, after all, been sold into the industry
around the world. I think that makes it a standard, by definition. Fwiw, we can say
there are many standards competing for potential dominance in the Cable modem
market- whatever their chances of ultimate dominance. Just my view."
Now I see TERN PR has changed its spin from we will have certification to
we do not need b/c G.Gilder said that we are already standard.LOL!!!

Yes Dan.B,"so call industry", few selected companies which put TERN's
systems in warehouse, and get more money from warrants that they pay
for products.
During communism era in Ester Europe regimes were telling people
that communism is the best system b/c so many people are living in such
society.
Now look what has happened after time!

<< Still, it is not agreed that S-CDMA is not an industry standard. Not to repeat myself(Ahem, LOL), but I disagree. Gilder is trying to be entertaining in his opening(not very successful though, IMO). In the end, he indicates "hopes" for S-CDMA as an industry standard in Asia. >>

Anything Gilder says that might be wrong should be excused in the name of attempted humor?

Gilder's words were "was finally adopted as an industry standard". Those words can only be read as a statement of historical fact, not a "hope" for the future. The fact, however, is that NO standards body or industry consortium has adopted TERN's technology as a standard or part of a standard. You admit this!

Why not concede this one point and move on?

<< I don't think he is oblivious to the possible definitions of "standard" which any free human being is at liberty to employ at will. >>

LOL! You're really grasping for straws now! And you're off-base: Gilder wrote "industry standard", not just "standard".

<< The bottom line is that when it comes to CDMA in the cable world...there seems to be only ONE standard available to look at...one which has, after all, been sold into the industry around the world. I think that makes it a standard, by definition. >>

So now you're saying that any proprietary technology, if you define it narrowly enough, is an industry standard unto itself? LOL!

Being standard in networking means interoperability between
multiple different vendors building to the same published standard(s)
or specification(s).
