George, could it be that the puppets are growing a spine? Goodness gracious, me! Please note the utterly venomous sarcasm and derision directed towards our very own President, one William Jefferson Clinton:

Ahead of the meeting, an Emirati newspaper accused Washington which is sending its Energy Secretary Bill Richardson to the region on a price-curbing mission of having "disturbed" the oil market. "The United States must recognize that they have disturbed the market," Al-Ittihad said, referring to US President Bill Clinton's warning that the tripling of oil prices over the past year could weaken the global economy.

------------------------------------------------------------

I guess Mr. Clinton's statements and his energy secretary aren't going over well in the Gulf States? "United stand"? Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Doesn't seem as though the Mexicans are in that much of a Kow Towing mood either. BWDIK.

If there is an April increase, "it will be done very carefully, in relatively small amounts, to see what happens in the market," Tellez told a radio station on Tuesday.

"Mexico believes very strongly in reaching a consensus among all oil producing nations, and will not take any unilateral measures or unilateral decisions," Andres Antonius, Tellez's chief of staff, told Reuters.

Oil Shortage??

Does anyone here have expertise regarding the oil supply/storage system in
the United States?

I would appreciate any thoughts you might have regarding the following
statement (from Kitco) which suggest that the US is heading towards a
shortage

Thanks, THC

The strategic oil reserve is in salt dome voids on the Gulf Coast. The
refineries are on the East Coast. THERE ARE NO PIPELINES CONNECTING THE
RESERVES TO THE REFINERIES! R.M. states that if the Strategic Petroleum
Reserve is mobilized, it will be able to provide only about 200,000 barrels
of oil per day ( BOPD ) There will be enormous problems involved, as the oil
is of different qualities and various qualities must be directed to such
refineries as can handle them. Then there is the scheduling, so that the
right oil goes to the right refineries, at the right time.

Besides, the U.S. consumes 17 million BOPD, so 200,000 BOPD is a "drop in
the bucket", useless for controlling prices, and insignificant with regard
to oil needs.
So think of that when you hear brave words about mobilizing the S.P.R.!
Those are words only!
Add to this, the report of the Energy Department of mid-February states that
Crude Oil supplies in the U.S. are 285.5 million barrels. The "Lower
Operational Level" in the same report - the level needed to keep things
running - is 270 million barrels. So there is only 15.5 million barrels of
oil cushion. Compare with a requirement of 17 million barrels of oil per day
consumed in the U.S.
This is a grave situation!
