I've got a couple of suggestions that should bring the wrath of the MD thread down on me.

1) Phase out margin altogether. Investing in equities is a risk in and of itself. Why should there be margin anyway. Start out by not allowing any additional margin increases and as investors sell equities and reduce their margin establish that as a new cap. Over time there will be no margin. (Note: I use margin...I like margin...I just can't justify why margin should exist, it adds volatility to the markets and increases speculation)

If that didn't upset the thread enough <s>

2.) Get rid of those stinking derivatives called "Options". They are based on nothing of intrinsic value....they are a bet; put [no pun intended] them in the casinos where they belong and keep them out of the markets....ok, [already feeling the tomatoes coming my way] the only options allowed are "covered" options.

Best Regards to a fine and kindly thread,
jttmab
