3) Why not outlaw short selling while you're at it?

Sounds like a modest proposal you have there :-)

jttmab, agree with 1 disagree with 2. You need a hedge for your investments.

jttmab,

put [no pun intended] them in the casinos where they belong and keep them out of the markets

I thought they were already in the largest casino of them all...The Chicago Board of Options Exchange Hotel and Casino. The only difference between there and Las Vegas is there are some great $3.99 buffets in Las Vegas and free drinks.<gg>

Seriously, if anyone who "invests" in options doesn't realize they are gambling, they deserve to loose every cent. Can't get rid of them though. Calculation and of risk and speculation is what made (and makes) America great.

EDIT: An if there weren't any short sellers, we would have a hard time getting reversals in the corrections we have. The majority of all "correction reversals" are short covering rallys. I just can't believe someone is suggesting the outlawing of short selling after the most prosperous bull run in history.

Regards,
Chris

Just outlaw analysts, or better yet, use truth in advertising. Whenever anyone who draws salary from a brokerage appears on the tube or radio, have the title appear "Sales Associate". And when Maria asks whether they would buy the stock right now, require them to answer "I have to check with the owner of the brokerage. Be right back.".

Maybe we should also pass a law requiring everyone to wear helmets at all times. As well as full-body padding. We wouldn't want people to actually take risks, walking around unprotected. Maybe we should also outlaw getting loans from banks to buy houses or start businesses. Why, they might lose money! People don't realize the risks involved in their actions. It's much better that we, the enlightened, decide what risks are appropriate.
