Duane,

Re MIT 50nm gates.

1. Impressive that 248nm light source can be used to pattern a gate 1/5th that size.

2. I'd have to question yields, scalability etc. It was probably close to impossible to get a single working transistor, getting a couple billion or so on a chip and having enough of them work, may be a horse of a different colour.

I suspect that the MIT work answers some theoretical and practical Physics questions more than providing a path for production chipmaking at this point.

But if I'm underestimating what MIT has done, then it bodes very well for DPMI, PLAB as the OPC and PSMs will generate huge revenues for the maskmakers.

Just an inexpert opinion. If really curious, ask Katherine D. She could give a much more expert and accurate opinion than I.

Certainly, no-one should initiate any position based upon my speculation here without doing a lot more research to confirm, or prove wrong, my assumptions.

Regards,
Ian.

Sorry for the delayed response but SI took second chair to getting some research done. Your list is interesting since CYMI is very attractive now, as well as LTXX (we were out in time and looking to get back in).

We took ETEC off the table too early but we almost nailed AMAT perfectly and are now on the sidelines waiting for the next opportunity. We were fortunate to bring BTUI to the readers just 2-3 days before the CNBC piece on the company, and pocketed a quick 50% for our efforts.

Right now, even though we are fully invested, we have our hat and coats on and are getting close to the exit door, in order to build up reserves for what we believe to be a stagnant or reversal of fortunes real soon. And after the air clears, we look to be re-entering at 10-20% discounts from the impending exits.
