Jean, >wrong Tony

Just my opinion of course, but SUN and HP are the Top of the Unix pyramid and sun is the leader...

What you said I was wrong about was this We've seen that their (Sun's) hardware is way low in price/performance compared with Intel based
(one third as good from the last posted benchmark. Admittedly just one, but they all run that way.).

Sure, Sun's on top now, but companies take turns at the top. Another poster captured my thoughts exactly on the Sun thread before I had time to reply. I couldn't have said it better. I'll just add that if you don't keep improving the product, someone else will.

Hi Jean,

I'd like to better understand the strengths and weaknesses. What are you seeing on your end of things - I'd appreciate if you would share your opinions.

RE: "either sun will win or HP, not anybody else"

What would you say are the main reasons at the moment? Manageability?

RE: "That's 2x E10000's with 1 SAN, EMC array..."

Would you clarify, thanks.

RE: "Intel is Nowhere close to that, while Intel does have a very bright future, it is not enterprise -class"

Which chip do you have issue with? Or, do you mean the overall package? What exactly do you mean? Thanks.

RE: "It's developping Intel/Win2K in the midrange, Intel/Linux/Win2K on the bottom end and SUN/HP on the top"

Would you expand where you see the line between the midrange and the high-end? I'll be curious to watch this line.

Amy J

Jean,<<<Has anybody noticed, in a previous posting last week, that the incredible team that did the E-Commerce IT Infrastructure at dell is doing the same for JDSU..>>>

Message 12834448

Who are those people and who do they work for? Also what is the E-Commerce IT infrastructure at Dell? What is the enterprise hardware they use at Dell?

I can't beleive they use SUNW hardware or IBM S390's.

Regards,

Mary
