I thought the Boiler Room was dated by its exclusive focus on Chop Shops. The word Internet was not used once throughout the entire movie. It was like watching a movie about an early 90's scam.

The other questionable aspect of the movie was the use of the FBI and not the SEC as the investigators. I don't want to give too much away here but I will say the speed and the decisiveness of the FBI as they went after the scammers is in direct contrast to what actually happens with stock fraud prosecutions.

In conclusion it appears some Hollywood producer merely dusted off a 10 year old script and dressed it up with flashy promo in a rather cynical effort to capitalize on the public's huge appetite for anything to do with the stock market.

etc.

In 1953 Merril Lynch was doing exactly what the movie described.

Wow. What a great story. You got anymore?

Know of any books describing how these outfits got started?
