[February 23, 2000--MUMBAI] US-based NeST Technologies, a subsidiary of NeST Systems and Technologies Pvt. Ltd. based in the southern India state of Kerala, plans to acquire three US-based companies.

The targeted companies provide networking, e-commerce and Internet technologies.

"We have decided that acquisition should be the mechanism that will enable our US outfit to grow," said managing director N. Jehangir. "We have already identified three companies based in the US and will start the acquisition process soon," he added, without mentioning any names.

NeST Technologies, which had a turnover of US$20 million last year, plans to listed on Nasdaq by end-2000, by which time the acquisitions should be complete.

Specializing in technologies such as communications, IT, fiber-optics, microwave and wireless, NeST has 15 development facilities spread across five locations in India, in addition to branch offices in other parts of world, including Japan, Australia, the Middle East, Great Britain, the US and Canada.

The company, whose international clients include electronics giants like AMP, Dialogic, Hitachi, Toshiba and Yamaha, is also considering opening offices in Sri Lanka and Malaysia.

Catering primarily to the overseas market, NeST is expected to post a turnover of US$60 million this financial year, and hopes to double that by the end of 2002.

NeST develops solutions in multiple areas of IT, such as networking, embedded systems, Web technology, Internet security, device drivers, industrial automation, and image processing.

Meanwhile, in partnership with networking solutions company Digital-X Networks, NeST has launched a new range of PCs, laptops and network solutions for the Indian market.

"Our tie-up with Digital-X will ensure high-end products at low-end prices, without compromising on the technology front," claimed Jehangir.

The alliance will also enable networking products that include Ethernet cards, Ethernet wiring hubs, repeaters, Ethernet switches and Internet sharing hubs.

NeST has also launched a network software solution called Nova Proxy for corporate intranets.
