Here's the thing to keep in mind. Internet companies are NOT technology companies. They are retail and/or services companies. For example, AOL does not produce technology. They use it. They do write an interface, but it in itself is not technology. It uses technology provided by others to interface to the AOL service. We are focused on technology companies, so let's be careful about taking on internet companies.

The distinction between Internet companies and non-Internet companies becomes less and less every day, as the Internet becomes an ever more vital marketing/distribution/procurement etc tool. I think it's a moot point. It won't be long before the phrase, "Internet company," will have no distinguishing meaning. Any company that doesn't embrace the Internet as a way of expanding its revenue and cutting its costs will find it having less and less of an edge over its competition. I still like the idea of focusing the discussion here on the product adoption life cycle, the elements of gorillahood vs royalty, and the relative size of each company's market cap. If there is an occasional, well presented discussion of a smaller company exhibiting primate potential, I'm sure it will be well received as this is a public forum in which we wouldn't want to lock the gates even if we could. Just my opinion. --Mike Buckley
