OT-- AOL
I didn't want to step on AOL long's toes... I think people that subscribe to AOL do so just to get connected, not for the content. AOL is a safe first choice for the web beginners, and I agree they are millions. Once people get familiar w/the internet, they will want to CHOOSE their content and not be fed by that big motherly mammal.

Global Crossing's Cassara Elected to Chair CompTel's Board

ROCHESTER, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 24, 2000--Anthony J. Cassara, president of Global Carrier Services for Global Crossing, has been elected Chairman of the Board of Directors for CompTel, one of the pivotal organizations in the competitive telecommunications industry.

CompTel has more than 350 members and functions as the voice of the industry. Based in Washington, DC, the association represents its members before Congress, the Federal Communications Commission, and state regulators and legislators.

Cassara has served on CompTel's board for nearly four years, most recently as Vice Chairman and Treasurer. The 18-member Board of Directors is elected annually by CompTel's membership.

``Noone can deny the telecommunications is the most exciting industry in the world. CompTel represents the very heartbeat of the industry's competitive spirit,' said Cassara. ``Working together we can generate a very loud voice for competition...not only in the United States, but throughout the world.'

Cassara brings years of experience in all facets of telecommunications to his new role. He is responsible for Global Crossing's Carrier business worldwide, including evaluating and implementing international entry strategies - building an operating infrastructure that spans North America, South America, Europe, Latin America and Asia. Global Crossing's Carrier target markets include resellers, carriers, CLECs, LECs, RBOCs, ISPs and international providers. Under Cassara's direction, Global Crossing's wholesale division has posted growth rates more than twice those of the wholesale industry. He has served as president of the company's largest local exchange company in Rochester, NY; managed the strategic planning and business development operations; headed a sales and marketing venture; and served as vice president of both telecom services and network services for the company's telephone group.

Cassara holds a bachelor's degree in business from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and a master's degree in business administration from Boston College. He has been named one of the 30 most influential telecom leaders by Phone+ magazine for two years running.
