A pre-coffee musing: Business Week's objective is to sell magazines. If articles are factual but boring the magazines won't sell to their current target market. They are not publishing investment advice or research reports. Perhaps part of the strategy is to have just the right level, just enough of an off-slant to get a little controversy rolling around among the readers. Keeps things interesting. And, if a BW article, inaccurate or not, causes the stock to take a dive or spike, the follow-up stories mention BW (or whoever). Remember all the press the analyst who put a $1,000 target on Qcom received (and it's still mentioned; see the March (the Qcom issue) Money article. After all, does anyone here base their investment decisions on what you read in a general business magazine? The articles are interesting and, obviously, based on the in-depth discussion here about the article, thought provoking.

In no way excusing inaccurate or sloppy journalism but thinking that maybe we are forgetting the goal of the publication. Why not capitalize on the errors as opportunities to see through the FUD and use it as an advantage? Like the article (not BW) I read yesterday that referred to the "national phone company, Global Crossing"; LOL!!! After all, FUD in the form of discrepancies in perceived value is, basically, what creates a market. The facts do emerge, eventually.

Now I'll get my coffee. Perhaps after my caffeine fix I'll think about it differently.

Let the day begin! Profits to all!
