GM, DaimlerChrysler to Join Ford Online Purchasing, People Say

Detroit, Feb. 25 (Bloomberg) -- General Motors Corp. and
DaimlerChrysler AG will join Ford Motor Co.'s online auto-parts
purchasing venture, AutoXchange, said people familiar with the
companies' plans.

AutoXchange, a venture Ford formed with database software
maker Oracle Corp. in November, was created to reduce the No. 2
automaker's costs. GM also formed a similar venture with Commerce
One Inc. in November, and the people said Commerce One will retain
a role in the new alliance.

The three biggest U.S. automakers have scheduled a joint press
briefing for 11:45 a.m. local time at GM's technical center in
Warren, Michigan. The automakers and Oracle declined to comment.

The combined effort reflects the industry's desire to cut the
more than $200 billion they spend annually on parts and materials.
It also means Ford and Oracle's AutoXchange will supercede GM's
TradeXchange as the dominant electronic tool for speeding up the
buying and selling of those parts.

GM rose 1 7/8 to 77 1/8 in midmorning trading, while Ford
shares rose 7/8 to 43 3/8. DaimlerChrysler's U.S. shares rose 2
1/8 to 64 1/64. Oracle shares rose 3 11/16 to 65 5/8. Commerce One
shares rose 21 to 200.
