I have heard a similar story but it took place near Bath, Illinois. Back in the 50s a couple of guys boated to Grand Island Duck Club to do some poaching. They were using dynamite to blow pot holes when one of the dogs fetched a lit stick. No shooting was involved as the dog got the stick an instant before it went off. This was relayed by one of the poachers who is now in his 80s and is poaching alligators in Florida.
