That statement was little more than PR. In terms of actual volumes at release time, nothing has changed for AMD. Take the 850 MHz Athlon release, for example. Only a few OEMs are selling systems right now with that speed grade, and vendors on Pricewatch had to take pre-orders on the thing several weeks after the actual launch. This is the same standard that AMD used for every other processor launch.

(All you who want to respond with "Oh yeah, look at Intel" can sit down. I know exactly what you're talking about, and in fact, it fits into my argument that AMD's statements are nothing more than PR. What better way to make yourself look good than to exploit the negative PR surrounding your competitor?)
