Concerning SBC and similar ilk:

It's all about buying time. The market must demand the capacity and performance that Q offers in order to bring it to fruition. I see the GSM's and TDMA's betting that the ramp of this demand will be relatively slow - or perhaps more accurately that they can inhibit or stunt this demand growth - in order to buy time for advances in their respective technologies that can keep them in the game. If customers are "happy" with 64 or 144kb, what need is HDR? If in two years the Q offers 10mb, what need is it if customers are happy with less? If they can control the expectation curve, what need for the overachiever?

Europe may well live with an inferior European solution in perpetuity, regardless. Nationalism is a strong, irrational force. We must expect better, however, from US companies. And Q must stem the tide elsewhere, including China....

Gonna be alot of disinformation, and it will grow with the QCOM threat. Perhaps a good indicator of progress...

long Q ... regards, blg

Probably because they bought MOT infra and it was so bad that they decided, as Airtouch did, to dump the whole thing. So since they already have TDMA stuff that works (somewhat...) they decided to just add the least amount of money to fix it up before they invested in 3G.
