Only 98 SPX companies are above the 200 DMA. I can't imagine the breadth of the SPX ever being worse. But one thing is for sure -- market breadth is not a conclusive indicator for a market crash.

RE: GDP

Heinz, How does the BEA arrive at the 6.9% increase in Real Gross Domestic Product in 1999-Q4?

bea.doc.gov

Using their numbers I compute 6.75%, which is close, but not exact. I arrived at this number as follows:

From Table 3.--Gross Domestic Product and Related Measures: Level and Change From Preceding Period: Billions of chained (1996) dollars: Seasonally adjusted at annual rates columns we have the GPD values 8,900.6(1999-Q3) and 9,050.9(1999-Q4)

Therefore the annualized Real GDP growth for the last quarter of 1999 is (9050.9/8900.6 - 1) * 100% * 4

I also compute 5.56% Real GDP growth in 1999-Q3 which differs slightly from their reported value of 5.7%.
