Re: "In DELL's case, I am increasingly concerned that top management actually believes their own BS... they don't need to really do consumers, they just need to talk about it, why go into that low margin business. They don't need to actually spend money or do risky alliances to get to the next level in the enterprise, the world will come to them. They don't need to field a low-cost legacy-free PC just because CPQ, IBM and HP are doing it, customers will pay twice as much for DELL... I'm hoping there is no surprises. That's the problem with running on autopilot - if the landscape changes while the pilot is in the back getting coffee and chatting up the stewardess, the plane can fly into a mountain. " rudedog you always make so much sense and I find it hard to go against your logic and well put thoughts and ideas on this thread. But I equally find it hard to go against Dell as my thoughts keep ringing with the logic that most of Dell's negatives are currently factored into the stock price. And Dell still has a great working model as witnessed by IBM's flip flop with "the pc is dead" and now "we're going direct with pc's" -perhaps due to Dell's not wanting to merge with their ideology? And CPQ's buyout of it's direct supplier and comments of how much market share they plan to gain with it. Also GTW's partnering with SUNW obviously due to Dell's tremendous growth potential in the high-end server business. I Can imagine how SUNW & GTW are at least concerned with Dell's past successes -probably more so than Dell's shareholder's realize or at least give credit in the current stock price? IMO Dell looks like the typical climb the wall of worry type investment at this point. They are the corrected stock having a tremendous near term explosive potential with all the protection of higher interest rates buffered cash and open European and Far East (when is China's WTO entry vote due? ) territorial growth horizons that's being overlooked by very short term fears which Michael Dell can swipe away with one stroke of a huge stock buy back announcement. But surmising MD's thoughts he probably can't wait for the next stock split? Probably just shortly after he wins over IBM,CPQ,HWP,SUNW & GTW investor's!<g> TTOSBT P.S. I wish you would give this thread the availability of your expert thoughts on how Dell creates core business for it's boxes with the out-of-box businesses it is creating? Or am I just pipe dreaming?
