freeus,

OT
<<re why cant we stop them?(tyrannical govt programs)>>

Had to respond to this. Right on! I have really enjoyed reading the material from both AYN RAND and Harry Brown.

As a former Navy SEAL, I got really jazzed about serving the country...it was always in the spirit of preserving freedom and keeping government out of people's private affairs. Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine (sp?)( the unsung hero of the America Revolution) are two of my heroes that have really underpinned my core values. Government is kind of a necessary evil that should be kept in check. So many people don't realize that our whole country was founded on freedom...not I need some government to look after me but rather "Don't tread on me"...

If for just one year no tax was withheld from paychecks, no tax was paid on purchases up-front etc. and then people got one tax bill for everything(gasoline, durable goods, consumer goods, earned income, capital gains...)at the end of the year,we would have a revolution. Most people have no clue what they really pay in taxes because they dole it out in small increments day after day. In short, anything the federal government does not absolutely have to do should be passed to the individual states, anything the individual states do not have to do should be passed to the communities and most things should be up to individuals.

You hit a nerve,

SL2

freeus, when i worked for the millican company, he had all mgmt trainees attend a 1 week course taught by Bob LeFevre. My favorite memory out of that course was "If gov't sets out to help you , you will be the first one hurt".

If you think about this in the context of helping people to helplessness, it sure paints our welfare state in a new light.
