Cyrix III is MII + L2 cache + fast FPU. I expect that it will be quite competitive performance wise for the low end, and will be extremely inexpensive.

That's what you would expect. But, according to these benchmarks, the 400 MHz part is much slower than Celeron 400 or K6-3 400. I think the last MII part, which was I believe 300 MHz, PR-400 was competitive with Celeron 400.

So Via added 100 MHz, 256K of fast L2, faster FPU, and they ended up with slower processor? Even it this is not final silicon / BIOS, it seems that this chip is going to be a dog.
