Carriers With Data Legos
All In One Place? Not AT&T
Chairman and CEO of AT&T?s Wireless Group is not putting all his Legos?er eggs ? in
one basket. John Zeglis, one of the morning?s keynote interviewees, pointed out that
focusing his energies on one ?killer? wireless data application would not be a smooth move.

?We don?t know what will come of wireless data,? Zeglis said. ?If you try to list what those
applications are (right now) you will fail.? Instead AT&T will stay fluid, keeping their
resources ready to build whatever is hot.

Audience members seemed to like Zeglis? forward-looking approach.

?I personally think you need a suite of applications to make it worthwhile to a subscriber,?
says Greg Patterson of BellSouth. ?Would people subscribe to the Internet with only one
application??

Alexander Wilnerding of worldlyinvestor.com, pointed out that keeping an eye on a killer
app could still be important. ?If you don?t look to the next killer app, someone else might
and then you?ll be playing catch up,? he says. But whatever the application, youth is king,
the 26-year-old points out. ?You need something that?s going to capture the young
generation.?
