Jim, with a long, but temporary blip for fixed wireless In our so-called "developed" portion of the
world -- that temporary blip may well be quite short.

But in thousands of villages throughout the remainder of
this world, I would venture to say that (x)MDS systems
will likely remain the primary last mile link for decades to come.
(The ether will long remain, the least expensive "highway surface" for that last mile. )
The provision of this service, will be primarily from third generation (x)OFDM technology and "smart" antennae systems -
just as third generation cellular / pcs systems will
operate primarily on (x)CDMA technology.

In our neck of the woods, this RF Link will be relegated
to the "last 4 meters" - with (x)OFDM-Firewire "smart boxes"
providing inter-connectivity, configuration control, and
video-audio-data distribution throughout the home itself.

BlueTooth enabled devices will exist throughout the "last
meter" - providing connectivity between a myriad of computing devices and their peripherals;
and of course - between our eyeballs and ears, and the devices that communicate with them.

Best,
Mardy.
