I read in the paper that the boy's father is in prison and his mother is out of the picture, and he's being raised by his uncle. I just don't believe that a six year old kid can have mens rea, that is, formulate criminal intent. It's like cartoons to a kid that age, worse than the retarded man who thought he was going to finish his pecan pie after he was executed. Yes, of course one feels compassion for the family, but it's not like things like this never happen. Every so often one reads about a kid that shoots another kid, by accident. I went to college with a guy who shot his own brother and killed him, he was 12 years old at the time, but it was an accident. Bottom line is it wouldn't happen if the gun wasn't where the kid could get to it.
