E <AMD needs to resist the temptation of being baited by Intel into fighting a battle of vapor.>

I believe AMD has been working very hard to leave the vapor launches behind them.

Some rumors from JC:

Below is a series of two very very interesting rumour sets from people who have struck me as seeming decently honest (and intelligent -- that part was important). The actual content of the rumours seems very extreme, which is one reason why I am posting it here instead of directly on my front page (I don't want people to yell at me as happened in early January, eh?)

It is a long post with lots of specifics:

Just rumors but maybe AMD still has some nice cards to play? It is a lot more interesting to consider the processor market when there is more than one contender.

Ep, re:<You may be right but I hope that they don't, AMD needs to resist the temptation of being baited by Intel into fighting a battle of vapor.>

I think AMD or one of its partners should offer a free exchange for any owner of a 1 GHz PeeWeeIII. They could get either a cryo-cooled 1.2 GHz system or a plain old Spry Athy 1 GHz system. Then donate the 1 GHz Intel systems to universities. The publicity would be worth it.
