Re: "If Intel didn't do anything then how can you claim they are ahead? And the articles that you have been citing directly quote Intel representatives. How can you say Intel hasn't said a thing????"

Epi, here what I know:

#1 Intel said at the IDF they were shipping production 1GHz CuMines to customers.

#2 Several press releases last night and today claim HP will be shipping 1GHz systems later this month.

Here what we don't know.

#1 What else Intel will be releasing along with those 1 GHz CuMines.

So I conclude that the fact that Intel (apparently) will be releasing 1GHz CuMines does not mean they won't be releasing 850s 866s etc as you seem to conclude. Where did you get this idea? Did Intel publish a press release saying they wouldn't be releasing those speeds? Why don't you wait for the facts to come in?

Re: "I understand that Coppermine and all of the trashing that it gets is a sore spot for you, now you must know how it felt when you were constantly trashing the K6II and calling Athlon the "MIA-thlon" In truth though Coppermine's pipeline is indeed shorter and that is truly a disadvantage in scaling. The fact that Intel has scaled it anyway is much to their credit."

I don't remember your being around last Summer but if you were you would have known I dropped the MIA thing as soon as Athlons were available to the public.

Epinephrine,

According to some sources, the PIII pipeline is 2 stages longer than Athlon, and also uses a 3 cycle cache access.

I believe that they may have lengthened the pipe for Coppermine. I've asked about this on the thread before, but haven't gotten any answers.
