You are the one who has it wrong. Itanium executes x86 binaries in hardware.

You have it wrong. Titanicum is the chip that has to emulate x86.

I don't believe anyone will be required to run legacy software on an Itanium as Microsoft and RedHat have an OS and development tools shipping to developers today. You seem to think buyers of this system will run legacy apps, I don't.

Sledgehammer will run 64 bit x86 in native mode.
You mean 32-bit apps, since no OS or tools will be available.
