The only other way to have handled it would be to:
1. use a direct order entry firm where you could have made it your offer the whole way down. no guarantee you could getfilled, but orders routed tomost mms arent filled until the upbid, upbid indicating some strength, prboabably not when you want to be filled anyway.
but in the case of no upbids, a direct order entry , if you were fast, accurrate and didnt make mistakes and end up shorting 5000 when you only wanted to short 1000, give you some better opportunity to get it done.

oh yeah, our firm works orders as such, trying to make ityour offer as it falls, etc. we cant hit any bids because htere are none there that are permissisble but we try to make it your offer 1/16 or so above nonhittable bid on the way down. better odds than just waiting for bid.
thats probably the number one reason a lot of short sellers use our firm, we work the order.
