For a relative novice are the stops you refer to mental or actual and how tight? When I have tried stops they usually seem to backfire on me. I get stopped out and then the ride continues without me. Any suggestions/comments appreciated

Big Dog,
Some interesting comments on oil, from the Market Direction thread, including gas for 14 cents in California:

Well, I'm off to see my friendly Waterhouse broker in person this morning, one big advantage to that outfit for me is they have a branch office in my vicinity.
They finally fixed that bad market execution on the 24th, giving me my price. Unfortunately they left a zero out on the number of shares bought, buying me only 10 percent of what my order was. Doggone fortunate I only trimmed UPR shares a bit yesterday and had some in portfolio before, or I would now be short UPR!
Not to speak of a considerable gain from UPR since the 24th that is NOT in my portfolio.

I am entertaining all suggestions for a new broker!

Best Regards,

Roebear
