JC - I think I understand the disconnect here. I was not proposing VMS as a great architecture - it was pretty good in its day and is still fine for certain applications, but I agree that there was a reason that Unix took off and VMS became marginalized.

I was merely pointing out that some of the "ground breaking research work" going on at MSFT for Win2K per the article posted was really a re-hash of 25 year old ideas, maybe with a slight twist... and used VMS as a commercial example which was broadly available at about that time. Unix did not acquire similar capabilities for another 10 years.
