Re: "I though Jerry did a good job on CNBC."

Did anyone else besides me see the fire shooting from Jerry's eyes when asked about Intel coming out with a
1.5 Ghz chip? That question really fired him up.

John,

It's time he got off the David vs. Goliath thing.

It's a good PR. It makes a good story. I am sure we will see 1000 of them now.

Fowler, re:<The one thing that is unusual is that he continues calling Intel a monopolist, and in the next sentence says AMD has a 17% marketshare, and growing.>

You don't call 83% a monopoly? And its more like 92% when the price of the chips is taken into account. 92% of the $$$ volume is a monopoly. Face it.

John,

I don't think its cool to be talking about Intel at all but I don't think the David vs Goliath is dated. IMO AMD has a fragile hold on economic well being and can barely keep its own against Intel.....inspite of all the 1 G brouhaha this AM.

Fowler, re:<AMD should get off the David vs. Goliath thing> Actually, reminds me of Avis' "we try harder" slogan. Avis kept using the "we're number two but not for long" idea and took it all the way to the bank. AMD should try the same twist, IMO.

Re: The one thing that is unusual is that he continues calling Intel a monopolist...

Try and buy a "Corporate" PC with an Athlon in it from a tier 1 or tier 2 manufacturer. Try to buy an Athlon with NT or Win2K preloaded from a tier 1 or tier 2 vendor. Do you honestly think that every major PC vendor independently decided to deny these markets to AMD? It's not like there has ever been any hint of a compatibility problem. We run Oracle Enterprise 8, SQL server 7, and many other "corporate" and "scientific / workstation" programs on Athlons with no trace of any problem.

There is still some funny stuff going on. Intel evidently continues to be able to compel the industry to refuse to yield an even playing field to AMD - but that's OK, lately AMD is so much better that despite Intel's crooked ways, AMD is still winning.
