they spammed 100s of 1000s of unsolicited emails to people making false claims about the stocks (which they knew were false) and sold immediately in the run up. they also sent the emails, in a way that made it look like they were mistakenly sent to the recipients, so the recipients believed they were getting inside info.. I saw a similar situation happen in another stock where a tout not representing the firm, sent out 100s of faxes, using letterhead, from prudential I believe, so that the people getting the faxes thought they were getting private info by mistake... that one is still pending...
