Hah, well I lived France for several years. Fairly socialist, and the high unemployment that goes along with it. Of course, they have le Revenu Minimun d'Insertion, and I hear from time to time how it's better to be on that than to work at McDonalds. Well, I can assure you that it's no picnic to live on RMI, and the reason people are on it is because the job situation in the country sucks bigtime, and it will continue to suck bigtime as long as so many people profit fully from the present situation, notably the army of government fonctionnaires and union members who will bring the country to its knees if anyone so much as touches things. Fear of speculative bubbles has nothing to do with it.

In France it's chacun pour soi et l'Etat pour tous. "People in Europe" are no more or less informed about what really goes on in government than people in the US.
