As much as we would prefer not some rules are necessary. As you say "Adults are not trustworthy". Society has the right to regulate what it considers dangerous. We regulate the use of autos because of their potential danger.This in spite of their obvious necessity. You surely have the right to terminate what's inside your own body but I question anyones right to put other lives in undue jeopardy ....Keep the gun...yes the fast draw aspect may be lost but this is how reasonable compromise is spelled
