tried 3 times to start a new thread for an IPO that is going next week and when I click on "submit" to start the thread nothing happens. I tried web/info and then misc tech, neither would let me start the thread.

Hi Bryan, that was me on the "Check Email" thing. Now I'm having an old problem again and that is when I click on a message I'm not getting a color change showing that I've read it.

I had this happen a month or so ago and then it magically started working again.?????

I've done all the standard "internet options" etc. no go.
I'm using IE5.01

TIA for any help

:-)
JD

Bryan, or anyone that might take the time to lend a helping hand.

Why can't I "hot link" to someone's profile any more, or "earnings" either? I looked in options, but couldn't find it. Might someone direct me to where I can re-enable this feature?

Something funky is going on with your SI today.
I just responded to this message:

Here's where my reply ended up:

Message 13224671

What have you done to the SI we all knew and loved?
This BS is getting tiresome.

The Five Tenets of Crisis Communications

Brian: Try this sometime. You might learn something...

Crisis Communications must be:

PROMPT -- else rumor and innuendo fill the void.

HONEST -- or it will come back and bite you!

INFORMATIVE -- enough information to create a story without legally compromising your situation.

CONCERNED -- show people you care about their feelings.

TWO-WAY -- allow for interaction with all important audiences.

"Investment Web Site Glitch Shows Subscriber Names"

By Bloomberg News

July 3, 2000, 7:40 a.m. PT

SEATTLE--Silicon Investor, a Web site offering stock tips and management critiques, displayed the login identifications of subscribers last Thursday night instead of their online aliases, according to a report.

The Web page has more than 300,000 subscribers who pay $120 a year to post anonymous messages that can be read by anyone calling up the site. The company, which blamed the problem on an upgrade in the server database, said the glitch lasted a short time and was "immediately" corrected, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Silicon Investor is owned by Go2Net, a network of Web sites focused on personal finance, information searches, commerce and games.

Dear Bryan Burdick, Managing Director, Silicon Investor.

Now that this "Silicon Investor Mishap" is five days in the making, it's probably about time to address some of our issues.

First, our login IDs have been comprised not only once, but actually on three separate occasions over the past several days:

a) <a href="/stocktalk/readmsg.aspx?msgid=13990951"><a href="/stocktalk/readmsg.aspx?msgid=13990951"><a href="/stocktalk/readmsg.aspx?msgid=13990951"><a href="/stocktalk/readmsg.aspx?msgid=13990951">http://www.siliconinvestor.com/readmsg.aspx?msgid=13990951</a></a></a></a><p><br>
Second, actual posting is still "iffy", after these five days:
a) <a href="/stocktalk/readmsg.aspx?msgid=13990942"><a href="/stocktalk/readmsg.aspx?msgid=13990942"><a href="/stocktalk/readmsg.aspx?msgid=13990942"><a href="/stocktalk/readmsg.aspx?msgid=13990942">http://www.siliconinvestor.com/readmsg.aspx?msgid=13990942</a></a></a></a>
b) notwithstanding that this is the second time for me attempting to get this post to you. "* Error writing to database"

Additionally, SI Admin (Bob) has been doing a commendable job fielding much of this mishap over the past several days:
<a href="/stocktalk/profile.aspx?userid=4591117"><a href="/stocktalk/profile.aspx?userid=4591117"><a href="/stocktalk/profile.aspx?userid=4591117"><a href="/stocktalk/profile.aspx?userid=4591117">http://www.siliconinvestor.com/profile.aspx?userid=4591117</a></a></a></a>

He's an excellent first-line customer service representative, and even three days this is going quite beyond "first-line". Your own input is limited to a singular (1) trite message:
<a href="/stocktalk/readmsg.aspx?msgid=13988775"><a href="/stocktalk/readmsg.aspx?msgid=13988775"><a href="/stocktalk/readmsg.aspx?msgid=13988775"><a href="/stocktalk/readmsg.aspx?msgid=13988775">http://www.siliconinvestor.com/readmsg.aspx?msgid=13988775</a></a></a></a>

Bob's been shouldering your own duties, in an admirable way, and my following suggestion is nearly incumbent in evidence, for Bob:<br><br>
a) a promotion and salary increase<br><br><br><br>
b) an options package increase<br><br><br><br>
c) a combination of the above<br><br><br><br>
d) a combination of the above fairly expended from your own, as he's been shouldering your work<p><br><br><br>
Additional requests:<br><br><br><br>
a) please quit revealing our login IDs. Pretty Please. Seriously, Pretty Please.<br><br><br><br>
b) please apprise membership of when posting will be "normalized".<br><br><br><br>
c) please re-aquire the services of Jeff and Brad Dryer (the founders) to supplement, and/or supplant your own Managerial Directorship.

These were Silicon Investor's most basic functions, leaving aside the multitude of other currently broken issues, and they were the cornerstone of what made this a "real" and "great" site. They were proven beyond compare when we had that site called "SI". I believe they call it "SI Classic" now, and even at that, the best which can be managed is "simulated SI Classic". Ideally, that's what we'd like to have back, complete with two guys named Jeff and Brad. After five days, and no response from management (i.e.: Managing Director), keeping us and Bob twisting in the winds of cyberspace is unconscionable.

-MrB

*EDIT* Well, it's pretty apparent how things turned out trying to edit the formatting of this message. 'Nuff Said.

I'm gonna try and manually tweak that last message again, so that it can actually be read normally, like we used to do under Jeff and Brad's SI:

(well, that worked only marginally better) Bryan, nevermind—forget I even mentioned anything in the last two posts. I'm too exhausted, scared, ambivalent to try a third time. You gonna let Bob shoulder this one, too?
