Yeah, if you're the type of person who likes to have a bunch of apps open at once than a dual is the way to go. It really goes a long way towards keeping the system responsive.

I've been using duals for 4+ years now. Wouldn't go back!

Dan, do I have to run WIn2000 to take advantage of the dual processors or will they still perform with Win98?

Also, I thought I read somewhere an application has to be designed for multi-threading before it will take advantage of the dual processor.

thanks in advance,
jamse

and if you do get Win 2000. I don't know how they measured it but I saw a report that said Win 2000 was 20% better at multi-tasking than Win NT 4.0.

Dan,

Is your dual processor set-up on Windows 2000 supporting multi-monitors?

Thanks.

Sue :)

Dan,

Thanks for your insight! Your post on dual processors was fascinating for a single processor person like me <ggg>!

Is the 550MHz processor that you are using referred to as the "flip chip" as well? Also, at what FSB speed are you running your system i.e., are you running both processors at their rated FSB of 100Mhz or are you overclocking to 133MHz?

Thanks for your help.

Sue :)

A Long story with the moral being: Build a dual CPU system.

Here's an article that compares SMP vs. uniprocessor system in real-world apps, quite interesting.

I quite like my BP6 dual Celeron system so far. I haven't had the chance to really load it up yet though, aside from burn-in testing.
