Re: Fixed Broadband Wireless- AT&T Rollout to Consumers

Thread- I can't tell if this is a trial or a full fledged rollout. And I can't remember if it's been posted already. I search I did not turn it up. But thought I would post because it's geared toward consumers, not business. I can't recall who the equipment supplier is to AT&T wireless broadband plans. If anyone knows, please post. -MikeM(From Florida)

AT&T DEBUTS WIRELESS LOCAL COMMUNICATIONS COMPANY

Paul DeVeaux

March 24, 2000-- AT&T Wireless Services announced Thursday that it will begin offering its Digital Broadband fixed wireless service to residential customers in Fort Worth, Texas. For AT&T, which contends that it is the first wireless local communications company to deliver services to homes, Fort Worth is the first of several cities it plans to target.

According to AT&T, Fort Worth customers can save as much 25 percent off similar services offered by local telephone companies. For $25.95 a month customers can select a single voice line with Caller ID, call waiting and three-way calling services, while "always on," high speed data service is available for $34.95. Additionally, AT&T provides a free network interface card necessary for high-speed data services and allows customers to use their current phones and keep their existing phone numbers.

Customers using AT&T Digital Broadband have a small antenna placed on the exterior of their home, which is used to transmit voice and data signals from nearby "base stations." Significantly, line-of-sight between a base station and a customer's home is not required. A wire connection is made from the antenna to a control unit in the home. The control unit is then connected to an existing inside phone wiring jack and an AC power supply outlet.

Re: Fixed Broadband Wireless MMDS- Sprint and Hybrid Networks

Thread- Finally. A residential MMDS rollout by Sprint in Phoenix. I thought ADC Communications(sym:ADCT) would be the equipment provider for Sprint(sym:FON), but apparently I was wrong. Hybrid(sym:HYBR) got it. Should be interesting to watch this one since it's a residential rollout versus business. -MikeM(From Florida)
