Fascinating article. Perhaps Napster is single handedly making the quarter for dd vendors. Wasn't the Recording Industry of America that philanthropic group that a few years ago wanted to charge groups like summer camps or Boy or Girl scouts royalties for singing songs like "Michael Row the Boat Ashore" around campfires? As I recall, they suggested that these groups were stealing dollars from starving artists. Caused an uproar at the time that forced them to back off. This is obviously a little different, but I don't think they have many fans in the general public, especially when it was pointed out that record companies themselves don't generally support "starving" musicians very well, except for the select few groups that make them millions.

The fantasy that I have about the recent surge is that Seagate's stock price is getting to be high enough to buy, e.g., Maxtor, for a couple of billion dollars. This would certainly help everyone, including Seagate, though the biggest winner (once again) would probably be WDC, since they have the farthest to go. The latter will apparently get some much needed cash from TDK's purchase of Headway as well.

Yeah, I know, Luzco already said that he wouldn't buy market share. Just a wish. I can wish, can't I?

appro,
Well, I'm going to wave the flag, declare victory and run away for the summer--- sold last 1/2 of Seagate, all Maxtor, and 1/4 of EMC.
The golf course beckons....

Thanks for the blast from the past... <<appro suggests an new recipe for stuffing disk drives:>>

Have you an opinion on the new paper on WIMPS-- Dark Matter? Can't find a direct link but this site should have it somewhere (extremely interesting)-- cfpa.berkeley.edu

Fore!,

Paul

It wasn't that long ago that I stated I thought the sector had bottomed. I bought some WDC but I could have bought virtually any stock in the group because now the whole sector looks much better.
