Skeeter Bug, Don't change the topic. The CPU is always working, period. What you said was technically wrong. Admit it. Now, as for productivity growth, look outside the consumer space and into the business space. Look at enterprise resource planning and supply chain management. Try managing a terrabyte database and then compare benchmarks across processors. If you do not see the difference, let me know. Computers are not only word processors. You may use them that way.
