The interpretations of many in the media (TV as well as radio) of Greenspan's comments were/are absurd. Stock market gains should be tied to earnings, period. Long term, this is always the case. Who cares what household incomes are doing in the US if the buyers in the US market are coming from over seas? You should see all the Asian money buying the homes in my neighborhood. Home prices are soaring well in advance of what engineers in the Silicon Valley are seeing in salary gains. It is not a closed system of just the USofA any more.

I think Greenspan was just jawboning. IF you read what he says carefully, he says something for both the supper bullish as well as the supper bearish. IF you have a case to make, such as a radio show or newsletter, then you take the parts of what he says to make your case. People that have a vested interest in you being right then just hear what you say and ignore the other evidence.

Actually, if you look at the Wilshire 5000 since last summer... or just make some projections..... 8% per year is not that far out of line from what it is doing. Some areas will shine and others will be duds. Follow the people that are good at picking the sectors that shine and you outperform the market. Index and you get the market. Follow someone that misses the hot sectors, and you probably will under perform. Nothing new really.

Was Battipaglia talking about the Fed doing something about margin rates?
