The speed of innovation right now, in every field that's been discussed recently, is incredible. It amounts to simultaneous, and parallel implementations springing from a central node. Your quote reverts to a point that I was trying (unsuccessfully) to make to MikeM a while back - that R&D has lost its linearity. I see it as more spore-like - with tremendous inflows of VC into promising areas. Pity the investor who makes the wrong choice.
