Jim, RE: "Can anyone speculate which processor will will end up in the X-box"

According to this article:

biz.yahoo.com

These are the specs:

X-Box Specification
-- DirectX API
-- Intel Pentium III processor technology with Streaming SIMD Extensions.
-- Custom 3-D NVIDIA graphics processor
-- 64 MB of RAM (unified memory architecture)
-- Custom 3-D audio processor
-- 8GB hard drive
-- 4X DVD drive with movie playback
-- Four game controller ports
-- Expansion port
-- Proprietary A/V connector
-- 100 MBps Ethernet

Somewhere I read 600 MHz. About price and other details, who knows. 1 1/2 years to release, everything could change. Who knows, maybe they will change their mind and use an Athlon.

BTW, welcome back.

John

McMannis - Our Bam Bam Ja Ja Man

Re: "Can anyone speculate which processor will will end up in the X-box, how much Intel will get for it and whether or not it's a great thing that Intel is getting sucked further into the lower end (600 Mhz next year will be very low end)? Hard for me to believe that Microsoft would pay more than $20-30 bucks for the chip?"

I see you deleted your memo, unposted, about the great strides AMD was making and their endorsement by Microsoft for being selected as the CPU supplier for the X-BOX.

We knew you'd post, instead, a bash about the "low end sucking" now that it turns out your beloved AMD got dumped by Microsoft.

Bam Bam Man - yo' be so friggin' predictable !!!

Guess what - Intel hit an ALL TIME HIGH of $120 13/16 today, its TWENTY FIRST (21 'st) since you Merrill Flynched and dumped your Intel shares last November at $76.

You just past up a $44 13/16 per share PROFIT - all that LOST POTENTIAL !

If you get a chance - please post that TRIMPHANT AMD post you had prepared for the AMD X-BOX win - the one that didn't happen !!!

Don't let it go to waste, Bam Bam Man !!

BAM BAM -> X-BOX - Intel Inside

Paul

When it comes to Intel you see the glass half empty every time. If amd had gotten the x-box you'd think it was the greatest.

Don't you think anything that Intel gets is good from the standpoint amd doesn't and imagine all those Intel Inside emblems on every box, in every house.

Oh the crowing we'd be witnessing if amd had won out, funny, where have all the amdroids gone? This thread was so thick with them it was sickening.

You never know, maybe Intel gets a cut of the software sales for the unit, as an exchange for providing cheap hardware (get the units out, and make the money on the software - razor blade model)
