Steve -

Perhaps we both need to lighten up. I appreciate your strengths, like your honesty about your rhetorical skills.

SI is about sharing ideas. That's why I wish you'd address RDRAM latency, embedded SDRAM granularity, or short squeezes in the abstract. Alas -- so it goes.

My record of predictions?

Perhaps I'm prejudiced or cherry-picking, or perhaps I misread your post. To what were you referring?

Steve Lee, re: PSX2
Do you know what Toshiba chips are used in PSX2? I've heard there are two chips, so I'm guessing two 128Mb RDRAM's.
According to the current issue of Biz Week, Sony is expected to ship up to 10 Million PSX2's this year. If I make a WAG of $25/chip, it look's like $500 Million revenues for Toshiba. And if I use 1.5% royalty/fee, that equals $7.5 million Rambus revenues. But just a WAG.
(BTW, if memory serves me, Rambus was originally targeted at graphics frame buffers, and is ideal for those applications. Physically short 16 bit bus on the circuit card. A few years ago some PC graphics chip company's announced support, but didn't I see anything go to production).
The current market cap for Rambus is greater than $10 Billion. If I use a generous forward P/E of 100, Rambus needs ~$100 million in net profits to maintain this valuation. I figure about 30% of projected total DRAM revenues would be required for Rambus chips. Do you think the PC industry can support this?

Steve Lee, <Intel 820-Based Motherboard Sales Flop on Chipset Flaws, High Costs >
This article illustrates the confusion around the state of Rambus penetration into PC's.

"...They blamed the slack sales of the 820 motherboard mainly on the high cost of the i820 chipset, which restricted their ability to boost sales by cutting motherboard prices. In addition, they noted that the failure of Intel's Rambus memory (a feature of the DRAM used in its 820 motherboards) to gain a foothold in the market has also dampened prospective interest in the 820 motherboard."

Any comments?
