You have to distinguish between a new device and a new application. For example, a blue LED is a new device and a fill-color outdoor display is a new application.

A transistor that operates at 300C may be a new device. But we already have sensors that operate at that temp and above. I'm not sure exactly what an "intelligent sensor" might be, but I don't think it's a new application, unless we can find a case where it's necessary to have the sensor be intelligent.

My point is not that such a device would not be useful, or profitable. Rather, that such an application is not "discontinuous". I see this as yet another example of trying to force-fit Cree to match the G&K field manual.
