Re: "Intel has spare FAB capacity (for this sort of thing), spare design resources, and its bottom line won't notice that one FAB is shipping parts for just enough revenue to cover variable costs" Intel doesn't have spare fab capacity or I don't think they would have: #1 bought the empty Rockwell fab in Colorado Springs. #2 began the outfitting of their Hudson/DEC Fab for Intel process. #3 Started the enormous Ocotillo fab in Arizona. #4 began the conversion of their older mothballed Fab5 to flash process. #5 announced they are still looking to buy more fab capacity on the open market. Additionally in today's job market nobody has excess design resources. Call yourself a Design Engineer and if you can see lightening and hear thunder you got a job offer. EP
